Press Release Body = Voitsekhovskiy, a doctor, still practices emergency medicine in
St. Petersburg, taking yearly sabbaticals to exhibit around the world. He has had
shows in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tokyo, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Israel
England, as well as Seattle, Minneapolis, Boston and now New York.

Strange, adorable and on occasion, somewhat startling, menageries of animals,
personalities and landscape trace a lyrical topography of a Russian soul caught
between consciousness and dream states, modernity against archaic impulses. Evading
easy classification, Voitsekhovskiy offers us dreamy renditions of ordinary life
tinged with absurdity through the prism of a unique, magical realist sensibility.

In a long tradition of Russian artists from the folk tales of Cat and Fox or Baba
Yaga to the work of Bulgakov or Pelevin, Voitsekhovskiy is a true Russian original
who often captions his pictures with tiny narrative comments.

The delightful colored drawings are being exhibited at Samovar Restaurant, an
experience in haute Russian cuisine-Blinis stuffed with caviar and vodka seeped in
fresh cranberries complete the mis-en-scene that will teleport the viewer/taster
into the timeless Russian spirit.
